Steph Rubbo Saddlery and Leather Work
Studio 12, 4th Floor, 40, Cumberland Road, London N22 7BU
Overview
I am a Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Saddler, trained in the use of traditional hand tools and techniques. I put those skills to use in the repair of leather goods. My specialism is hand stitching the thicker type of leather that is used for equestrian goods.
Leather goods if properly made are extremely durable, and have a long life. However occasions do arise when they might need repairing or restoration. Whether it is down to general wear and tear, mistreatment, or other damage, I can repair many leather goods. Most people would expect a saddler to be able to repair bags, belts and other leather accessories, but not so many realise I can also repair a wide range of leather chairs. Because I stitch by hand I can do work that is difficult or impossible to restitch on a machine, or if the item is in a fragile condition.
Each repair will have different requirements. Some bring an item back into daily use, some preserve an item that has emotional memories for you. In each case I will discuss the reasons and options with you before I proceed with any work.
I have worked on repairs as diverse as WW1 binocular cases, top hat boxes, Swiss army backpacks, camera cases, bellows, gun slips, dining chairs, and many mid century modern leather chairs.
If you have a query about what repairs I can do, drop me an email with your questions and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
