Imagine a world where repair, not replace, is your first choice.

Every year, millions of household items end up in landfill – discarded not because they’re beyond saving, but because repair isn’t the first choice.

We’re here to change that.

Welcome to
We Are Repairs.

We’re Ally and Gem. We believe in the joy and power of fixing what’s broken.

We want to inspire people to rethink waste, rediscover the joy of cherished possessions, and experience the feel-good factor that comes from choosing repair over replace.

But we know that as individuals, our voices are drowned out by the noise of mass marketing, mass manufacturing, and the greenwashing that convinces people to buy new instead of repairing what they already own.

That’s why we’re building a community – a movement that brings Repairers and repair-lovers together as one powerful voice.

A voice so loud, so united, that we break through the noise and make repair the obvious, celebrated choice.

Meet the founders

Ally

Avoider of the tip, Pro Furniture Restorer, dreamer, design obsessed and a major dog fan.

“We’re on a mission to celebrate repair, support local talent, and keep treasured items out of landfill – one fix at a time.”

My small eco-business, Restoration Hut, was born out of a life-long passion for high-quality, handcrafted design which is kind to the planet. For the last six years, I’ve worked hard to show my customers the power of transforming old and unloved furniture into premium pieces to be truly treasured.

Gem

Eco-warrior, Expert Upholsterer, Big-sky thinker, sports fanatic and (also) a major dog fan.

“The throwaway culture is causing lasting damage. We have the skills, people, and power in the UK to change that. Repair, not replace, is the future.”

My business focuses on creating furniture that truly reflects my customers’ stories. Whether that is lovingly restoring and reupholstering a family heirloom or creating a bespoke piece to fit in with your home. Each piece is given the TLC & hands-on craftsmanship it deserves to make it last into the next generation.

Our planet is at
breaking point.

In the UK, around 22 million small furniture items are thrown away each year when they become damaged.

92 million tonnes of textile waste is produced globally every year. This is the equivalent of a rubbish truck full of clothing being sent to landfill every second.

If all nations consumed the world’s resources at the same rate as the UK, 2.6 planets would be needed to sustain our demands on nature.

FAQs

In the first instance, you will need to raise the issue with the repairer that you employed to conduct your repair for you. All of our Premium Repairers and Featured Experts have been verified and have agreed to our Repairers Code of Conduct. If your repairer is a Premium Repairer and Featured Expert on We Are Repairs and you feel they have not responded to your complaint please send us an email detailing your complaint to [email protected] and we will follow up with the repairer to help you resolve the query.
Some items can be repaired via postal service so you do not need the repairer to love locally to you. For other items it may be that the restoration required is specialised and those experts do not live near you. Sadly some repair and craft skills are in decline and the crafts do not have as many practitioners as they once had. Part of the reason for creating the We Are Repairs community is to support repair and restoration experts in promoting their services and bringing these industries back to life so that every town and city does have these skills once again.
There are some fabulous free repair cafe’s that operate all over the UK so check out the page here to find one local to you. If you don’t want to keep your item consider donating it to a good cause rather than throwing it away - you can find links to some wonderful charities and companies here.
Again, this will depend on what your item is and how much work needs to be done to repair it, as well as how busy our repairers are with other restoration. Our repairers will give you an idea of the timeframe for the repair when you ask for a quote.
This will depend on what your item is and how much work needs to be done to repair it. All of our repairers will provide a no-obligation estimate of how much it will cost to repair your item before the work begins so you can make an informed decision on whether to go ahead.
